Re: Old outboard (15hp Johnson) rehab

It's been 15 years since I had one of these so I might not be entirely correct. I did change it from a 15" to 20". The drive shaft was different so I pulled out the short one and put in the longer one. I didn't have a manual but did visit a website dedicated to these motors. I don't recall...

Re: C17 instructions

Check in here https://boatbuildercentral.com/tutorials/ There are several manuals that go into specific details that are briefly mentioned in the plans. There may be specific instructions for your model but I didn't see any for the C17. It really fills in the gaps in the plans. In a more perfect wor...

Re: Landing craft, quad sized.

Glen-L has a lot of designs in their catalog. I remember my Dad getting me one of their catalogs as a kid. The designs are largely old style construction but can give you some ideas. I took a trip down memory lane this morning looking at their designs. I can can save you a lot of time. If you seek m...

Re: Suzuki/Tohatsu High Thrust

Thanks, BB. Yes. Planning to self install. Jbo I typed in "Suzuki install guide" or something similar and the actual Suzuki manual came up. It is detailed, lays out the steps in order and gives some measurements you need to check. I thought their order didn't make sense but followed it. I...

Re: Suzuki/Tohatsu High Thrust

Suzuki gear ratio is 2.08:1 Tohatsu is 2.15:1 Honda is 2.08:1 in 20hp, 2.33:1 in 9.9 Carburetor engine, not for me. Tohatsu and Honda won't sell remote engines directly, have to go to a dealer if you want a remote. Suzuki will sell a remote model directly. I went through a dealer but they put the bo...

Re: Suzuki/Tohatsu High Thrust

Sailboat people would be a good source of info on this. A 24-26ft sailboat weighs in that range. I'm pretty sure they get by just fine on 9.9hp but they have less drag in the water. 20hp is clearly better just because it is double the HP and the same weight. Never know when you are going to be pushi...

Re: 4 stroke info for a 2 stroke guy

I think I have 12' or 13' control cables on my J14. The wiring harness with the motor has at least 4 extra feet of harness available and runs the same route as the control cables. Everybody's set up is different so this is a ballpark idea of what you have to work with. The battery cable supplied is ...

Re: 4 stroke info for a 2 stroke guy

Suzuki seems to be well represented here. Sounds like they come with the controls(if remote), but no cables. Guessing that also means they don’t come with a wiring harness? What would they be wired for? RPM, oil(pressure), what else? Thanks for the responses. Jbo Mine came with everything less cont...

Re: 4 stroke info for a 2 stroke guy

I did have a serious issue with my 9.9 refusing to start at the beginning of the season. Would not fire up with electric start. Tried to pull start it a few times. Check the fuel can. Checked the battery volts. Everything was as it should be. WTF? Forgot to put the kill switch key in. Fired right up...
