Re: Panga 22 Build - The Saga Begins

I built the panga about 4 years ago. Kerf it until it hurts. Inside only, as shown on the bottom sketch. To bring the keel down to the frames use pieces of angle and eye bolts to wrench it down.

Re: Panga 22 suitability

I put a yamaha 4 stroke 90 hp on one. It'll run 35 + knots if you have the balls to run it that hard. It cruises best at 15 to 20, after that it gets squirrely . A few friends and I dived the Sea of Cortez a few years ago on a live aboard. They used 24' pangas probably 6" wider than the 22, wit...

Re: Panga 22 build time

You'll spend 50 hours just gluing the pieces together.I built one 3 years ago. I spent 400 hours on it the first winter, put a motor on it, and used it that summer. I wasn't embarrassed to run it, but it was a little rough. I spent 200 hours on it the next winter getting it fair. It is a now has per...

Re: panga performance

I don"t know about the C21 but Jacques describes the Panga perfect. I built a Panga 22 last winter. It's a narrow boat and it does roll. I have a 90 HP Yamaha and it'll run almost 40 knots, but it's a scary ride. It handles best at about 15 to 25 knots

Re: Virginia builders

Hi Alan, I'm in Williamsburg. I built a Panga 22 last winter, ran it this summer, and it is now back in the shop. I'm about complete fairing the sides and interior, hope to prime and paint in March, and put the motor back on in April. If you're down this way and want to stop by let me know. I spent a...

Re: C17 in Williamsburg, VA

Fellow Wmsbg'er If you need some help once you get started let me know. I just finished a Panga 22 a couple of weeks ago. Actually it's not finished but it's in a usable state. I'll finish the details, fair and paint this winter. I don't know enough to tell you how to do it, but I can tell you a few...

Panga 22

I have another week or two of work and I'll be complete except for fairing and painting the sides and interior. It's getting warm and I'm getting a little tired of this project. I'm thinking of shutting down and finishing next winter. I am planing to fill the weave with blended filler, put on a coat...

panga motor well modifications

Hi Jacques, I was thinking of installing Frame G and the motor well sides, as shown on the drawings, and then cutting the middle out of Frame G, between the motor well sides, and using the motor well bottom panel to extend the sole to the transom. Is this possible or is tying all these pieces togeth...

For what it's worth. I put the skeg and spay rails on first. Unless you have a helper and plan on using a lot of screws you're going to have some gaps that will have to be fiilled with putty. I don't see any advantage to fairing first. I'd like to see 200 ft of vis. In Virginia if we see 50 ft you c...

I'll try to get some pictures up in a week or so, after I flip it. I'm severely computer challenged but I ran across instructions on how to post pictures a couple of days ago, so I'll give it a try Colonial - you're welcome to stop in any time. I'm in Newport News. I have some good dive buddies up y...
