FS17 After 10 Years

In a few weeks it will be 10 years since I registered my FS17. I've enjoyed the boat greatly over that time and still check in from time to time to see what others are building, always with extra interest in this design. That said it seemed like a good time to provide some feedback about positives a...

Re: FS17 low hp performance

You might find this helpful. It's just page 1 of JM's full report. Maybe he could link the full document to one of the FS17 performance oriented threads?

Re: FS17 low hp performance

You can calculate / estimate speed with different power & loads using the Crouch calculation, and it works well if you have it calibrated to an existing rig from someone here. That means real power and measured weight. It may not work as well when it comes to planing off or not planing off. Jac...

Re: FS17 low hp performance

Been too long to recite from memory take a look at the old post. Transition to planning is so smooth with moderate load that it's actually kind of hard to identify, but somewhere around 10 kts but is load dependent. Any of the larger displacement 30 hp 4 strokes, many based on 40 hp frames would hav...

Re: FS17 low hp performance

Much of this discussion revisits my post of a few years ago. Had hoped others might "bump" it from time to time with their own observations. https://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30793&hilit=fs17+performance#p286422 My FS17 center console was originally powered by a Yamaha...

Re: FS19 New England build

OK, back to the original question. Looking into starting to build the fs19 this fall/winter in my garage. What can I expect working epoxy in colder weather? I built my FS17 in my unheated CT garage 9 years ago. About half of the build was done between November and April. While "fast" epoxy...

Re: Paint on Primer — Can you mix brands?

if it's a 2 part primer then it should be ok, if it's the one part I would be very sceptical. Exactly. 2 part epoxy or urethane primers are virtually 100% compatible. I've used Awlgrip over Sherwin-Williams Proline many times for instance. Never an issue. Would I do this on a big yacht? No,No, of c...

Re: Paint finish

Awlgrip flatting paste is the way to go. It's kind of expensive but works well.

Like it. Keep on posting. I'll ask the same question.....
Question, did you make a template for the puzzle joints or route them freehand?

LB23

I pulled this from Jasques' earlier posts regarding materials and scantlings. Yes, that Pelicano 23 is a nice design. The hull shape is very close to my LB26 scaled down 10% and many builders have asked for a smaller outboard version. I may put that kind of boat on my list. I looked hard at the LB26...
