Shine, Thanks for the reply. I am unemployed at the moment (laid off 1/30/09) and while I am job hunting I am also trying to finish up this boat project on a shoestring budget. My father had a 1/2 pound of Glass Bubbles (micro) and 1/4 pound of Cab-O-Sil. Another friend of mine gave me a gallon of S...

No, I have finished all of my glassing but, I did not coat all of the plywood as I went along so yes this is the seal coat of the resin in much of the area. I don't think I want Micro mixed resin against unsealed wood but I am just not sure of the affect of Silica in that coat. I am also concerned t...

Runny Resin??
I am working on finishing out my boat and when I am putting the resin on the inside of the sides of the hull, it is running off and pooling on the deck. I talked to a local supplier of laminating materials and he told me to add Cab-O-Sil up to a 50/50 volume with the mixed resin to get the resin mix...

Hull to side seams
I glassed the hull bottom to the sides of my boat last night and in a couple of small places I had difficulty getting the glass to hug the radius. I have about 3" of seam that has a bubble under it where the glass lifted away from the curve. My question is what is the best way to go about corre...

The weather here has gone from a high of 82 last Thursday to a high of 50 degrees (maybe) today. I am a wimp and hate working in the cold so I am at a standstill. I have plenty of sanding to do which could be done in the cold but I just hate it. To make matters worse, I am one of the several hundred...

Small boat buoyancy?
Do most of the small boats/Canoe plans have positive buoyancy. What I mean is if they are completely swamped will they still float or, does the weight of the Epoxy and glass overcome the natural buoyancy of the wood?
Thanks,
Roger
Thanks,
Roger

I tried to get on www.amateurboatbuilding.com and apparently the Forum is down right now. I will keep trying and post a link back here when I get in. I also thought of something else I would like to share. In Scouting, we require that Scouts and Scouters (BSA Speak for Adults that still like to be B...

Thanks Jacques, I understand about your reluctance to give any type of approval and I agree you need to stay away from a design that is not yours. The kind of power I am going to put on is a very small electric trolling motor. I am also going to put on Oar Locks and will likely be able to make more ...
