Re: Carbon Fiber poling platform
Good point Cracker Larry, the real wind issues would be while on the trailer not underway on the water. Yea I think it could be done but def time consuming. Would be a cool side project. I think I'm going to try it if/when I build again. In the meantime I'll go back to lurking and trying to decide b...

Re: Carbon Fiber poling platform
So I know I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead but I've been thinking about this carbon fiber tube method and other potential applications. I copied this polling platform design on my FS 18, thank you Joel . I have since sold the FS 18  as we now have three kids and I want something...

Re: New FS 18 Build
The computer wasn't liking me make a long post. So here's the maiden voyage. My handheld GPS wasn't working right so I don't have a speed yet. But she runs really well and almost scary fast for a little skiff. I've got a GPS on order and once I install it will be able to get an exact speed. She is a...

Re: New FS 18 Build
Yea I watched a TACO installation video on you tube. They said use a screw every six inches to avoid any waves. It also helps to have a second person stretch it tight as you screw it in. My wife was helping until the baby started crying. :x So I got mobilized to work on Operation Deepwater Horizon a...

Re: New FS 18 Build
Thanks Guys I appreciate the nice comments. I'm almost there but it will have to wait a couple of months now. I just got the call and have been ordered to New Orleans for 60 days to work on the oil spill. I'm soo close. I was hoping to have her in the water next weekend. Oh well at least now when I ...

Re: New FS 18 Build
Alright shes finally turned into a boat. Amazing what a little final paint can do. Finished taping everything off. This was kind of a pain. If you use this much tape it's important to pay attention to the layers. I didn't get the cleanest edge in a few places because the tape I was pulling up was un...

Re: New FS 18 Build
Yep gettin pretty close. I got most of the taping done tonight for the nonskid. I had this idea of using a redfish sticker as a stencil to have a redfish silhouette on the fishbox hatch. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_hVDaofl7hps/TClZYPXwYHI/AAAAAAAAAPI/yw620mAxCes/s640/DSCN1402.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_hVD...

Re: FS18 by Hooter
That is pretty good for 2k. I called around and all the galvanized trailers were around $1,300 or so. But they were for 18' boats so they were long enough but way too wide. I've got access to a machine shop so I found narrower trailer for a 16' boat and we're going to lengthen the tongue.

Re: New FS 18 Build
Yea, I think I've officially mixed my last batch of resin and painting was the last "big" job. It's motivating to finally see it take shape. As I stepped around on the decks I realized the two large hatches needed a little support as they had some give when you stepped on them. This was th...
