Re: sailboat under bridges?
Hi again. I wouldn't think of tilting a 3-1/2 four stroke Merc to try to sail (it would put too much weight in the stern and I save the gas motor for fishing trips); when sailing I hang a 40# 12V trolling motor on the transom and just raise the shaft up when under sail (it doesn't get in the way of ...

Re: sailboat under bridges?
I have a CK17. It will weight about 400 lbs so pulling it up on a dock is going to require a winch. If your two sticks are made of long leaf yellow pine (that you can find in any tree farm in north Florida) with the sails wrapped around them, they'll weigh about 30 lbs each and can be lifted out of ...

two free wood masts
Just replaced the main and mizzen masts on my Cat Ketch 17 because the masts I built 5 years ago rotted out at the base (dropped them on their ends too often at the launch ramp). These are still good and serviceable for someone in need of an 18' and 19' (they were originally 19' and 21') unstayed ma...

Re: Southeastern Boat Builders Meet 2016
Ever consider Amelia Island, just above Jacksonville? Inshore fishing within 5 minutes of the docks, deep water fishing (60' depth) 5 minutes of the dock, two big State Park fishing piers on either end of the island (camp grounds, riding stables, even a civil war era brick fort). Oldest continuously...

Re: 2013 Southeastern Builders Meet, June13/15, Sebastian FL
I checked into the Sportsman Lodge on the 13th and couldn't find any other homemade boats between there and the north end of town. Saw the cancellation the next day. Lucky I had friends to visit in Vero. Never been to Sebastian Lagoon before; little disappointed that the water depth averages only 4 ...

Re: 2013 Southeastern Builders Meet, June13/15, Sebastian FL
I've never been to a builders meet before but I plan to show up for this one. I'm staying at the Sportsman Lodge; for under $80/night that seems more than reasonable. I'm told I can leave my CK17 on the trailer for free, or pay $10/night to keep it at their dock; 70cents/foot is cheaper than anythin...

Re: Sailmakers
Might want to call Mack Sails in Ft. Lauderdale. They seem to have the specs on most of Bateau2's designs and are priced less than the sail prices on this website. I got mine there for my CK17 last year after seeing thet buily the sails for Paul Piercy's CK17 almost a decade ago. Shaped well and goo...

Re: ply
In the Atlanta area you can ordinarily find BS-graded meranti plywood in multiple widths at Atlanta Hardwoods, just inside I-285 on the west side of town.

Re: CK17 mast construction
This is my opportunity to answer some questions I raised earlier, based on personal experience building masts for my CK17. From experience, this works... I cut live trees to make my masts...went into a tree farm in north Florida, one of the those paper company acreages that plant Georgia long leaf y...

Re: Who has Registered Their Custom Built Boat in Florida?
Started to register a new CK17 in Nassau County two months back and got the demand for receipts too, so I registered it in Georgia. Incidentally, a 3 year registration in Georgia costs the same as a 1 year registration in Florida. Three years ago I registered a OT16 in Florida that I had built in At...
