This is exactly what i did using up my extra pieces of 1/4, it takes a little longer, but a much stronger laminated rubrail. Follow the cracker he is the man!! Yes, you will use 3 layer of 1/4". Just butt them up, then stagger the joint location for the 2nd. and third layers, so the second laye...

I agree John, they seem to be very forgiving designs when you do make a mistake or screw up like i did. and i have made a couple but thats all part of the learning process to put towards my next build. well if i didnt already have the front transom glued in i would have done it that way. But i decided to go with what i originally planned, it came out great, i cut the wood and glued in the pieces to reinforce it and then laid a patch of glue on the outside over it and shaped it when i sanded it dow...
