SUP Stand Up Paddle Board

Well after a cedar strip kayak and a stitch and glue planing hull, I'm now ready to try a SUP. Actually, my daughter would really like one. Anyone built a stand up paddle board? Anyone know where to get plans for such a beast? I'm thinking strip built as opposed to foam core. There are lots of plans...

Re: Epoxy over well sanded Gelcoat?

Glassed the bottom of the very old skiff including closing off the two giant holes in the keel yesterday. No issues. The glass came out beautifully. I have lots of experience glassing on new glass/epoxy while building my CX19, but repairing an old boat, especially a polyester resin boat, was still n...

Epoxy over well sanded Gelcoat?

Hi, Naive question perhaps. I am repairing the keel of a small skiff (8') for a friend. Previously someone used mat and tons of fiberglass resin and made a big mess. I have ground off the mess and would now like to use 2 x 6" 12oz tape and epoxy resin (System 3 Silvertip). The boat originally w...

Re: Weighing a large boat

fallguy don't you have a truck scale near you? Get it on your trailer and take it to it. Whether it be a quarry or a highway or something else. I am not sure you are going to get an accurate weight with what you are using. Tom It is 17' wide; under a hoop tent. It would cost about $2000 to put it o...

Re: Weighing a large boat

One further thought to reduce the sketchy/scary loading of a boat on individual loading points like this. There is no reason you couldn't bolt the assemblies that you have built to a beam, tying them together. The original scale used a "bridge" to do the same thing. Large scales typically ...

Re: Weighing a large boat

Just a thought from a former measurement technician. Did you check each load cell with a test load? The junction box contains trimmers that allow the "corners" to be set. If the four cells were calibrated together with a single load and the corners were not trimmed first, you could easily ...

Re: C19 Newbie Questions

There are many option. I built the CX19 (cabin version) and used the final marine ply for all of my stations except for the cabin bulkhead. This is because the bulkhead was cut shorter for construction to keep the hull lower to the ground. No reason not to use the marine ply, just make sure you are ...
