Re: GV11 - Vamouse

If you are going to put a larger motor on (i.e. planing speeds) then a single layer of biaxial, inside and out, on the bottom panels is really required. But you don't need to glass the side panels since you used a good plywood. Strictly optional and if you do, a lighter 4 or 6 oz cloth is fine. It's...

Re: BASIC electrical system info.

> A typical laptop uses 60-110 watts for a day of use. A watt is a unit of instantaneous power consumption. If you multiply it by time you get watt.hours (or more commonly kW.hrs which you see on your electric bill) In boat's electrical systems we often use amps for loads and amp.hrs for batteries. ...

Re: Polyester fabric

No you can't do this. Resin doesn't stick to polyester fabric. It's also very flexible compared to fiberglass. It has no structural properties.

Re: GV10 with console

2 people on the aft seat is too much weight too far aft. That's why we need more weight forward.

When running my own GV10, 1 person on aft seat and one on middle seat was nicely balanced.

The hulls and bow shape on both boats are very similar. You can see the bow shape best in the study plans of the GV15

Yes, that's more reasonable - but check the height of composting toilets. They tend to be too tall to fit under a bunk.

Re: Maia 24 modification

Heads in the bow seldom make sense because of waves. Nobody wants to get launched from the throne when seated...also - there isn't enough room in the bow!

Re: GV17

Fallboy - I did design the GV10/11/13 and helped draft the 15 so understandable you'd be confused. Aussieguy - sounds like you understand how weight up high is bad. 1m high is fine. A higher pop-top like a Catalina 22 sailboat with canvas sides, that you can use in calm flat anchored waters will be ...

Re: GV17

Hi, I'm actually not the designer, Jacques was. 10HP is lots, but consider using an outboard specifically designed to push a displacement boat. Both have 2.42:1 reduction ratio in the lower unit to turn a big, slow turning prop, which is ideal for slow heavy boats. Yamaha 9.9 high thrust with 11-3/4...
