Re: If/when to remove tie wraps for stitch and glue

I leave in the zip ties and put up with the ugly lumps under the tape :)

Re: 2 Part Hull

Yeah you could do it. I'm not as happy doing it with a planing hull because the hull forces are 10x that of a rowing/sailing dinghy. But the GV10 rides with the bow up in the air at speed and doesn't usually touch the water unless it's really choppy. If you get a day with a lot of chop and you're ba...

Re: GV13 questions pre build

Good idea on the fwd seat in front of the console.

Make sure the angle of the seatback is about 12-15 degrees. Make sure you have enough depth in the upper part of the console for throttle/shift mechanism and steering mechanism too.

Re: GV13 questions pre build

Yes, 2 x 3/8" plywood stringers, 3" high will be similar enough to the inverse V shaped one in strength.

Re: GV13 questions pre build

The upside down V cut is because the GV13 has some stringers that are made up 2 pieces of plywood in an inverted V shape. Naturally the bulkhead must be notched to suit. I am concerned about the position of your console. On such a small boat a single person is a big weight. So if you are going to op...

Re: GV13 questions pre build

Yes you can but: - you should probably cover doug fir plywood with a light layer of glass. This costs extra money, weight, and epoxy. - 1/4" 3 ply is OK - 3/8" is adequate. That's why it was designed that way to keep it cheaper and lighter. - bulkheads are not glassed just epoxy coated. Bu...

Re: GV10 build and introduction

Please don't thin epoxy. It's designed to work correctly out of the bottle.

Re: Cleaning laminating rollers

I only use a yellow plastic squeegee to wet out fabric or tape. For flat areas just pour a large amount and use the squeegee to spread it out. Pour out a little more for wet spots. For tapes, I use a laminating bench. Cover it with plastic dropcloth material. Wet out the tape there, roll up and then...
