Thanks for the responses and picture... I have a much better idea now of what I should do. I didnt think anyone would remember me from a year ago. As for buillding another boat, I looked over everything available and finally decided I didnt have the time (full time job, 3 kids, soccer coach, etc etc...

outboard for D5

Hi,
I built a sailing version D5 over a year ago and now want to add an outboard. I imagine that I will need to reinforce the transom to hold the outboard. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this and with what? Also any suggestions on what sort of engine to get?
thanks,
Lori

I like the pictures on your link Jacques. Though I am a total amateur at building boats it seems to me that an AD16 would be simpler than a shortened VG. My vote is for a larger cabin and sit in cockpit. Yes I know all the reasons its safe but as you said you wont get your family out there sailing w...

I have to admit that I have the same concerns about the lack of a real seat. It may be safer but comfortwise I cant see how it would be more comfortable. Also for guests the perception (whether right or wrong) is that it is safer sitting "inside" the cockpit not "on top". It woul...

I am wondering about the seat backs too. The written info says the cockpit is deep and the seats comfortable but from the drawings it appears that there are no bench seats and that the lifelines serve as the seatbacks.

PS. Any chance this design could be lengthened to 16-18 feet?

Thanks for the comments. Thats my husband in the picture not me and he is about 6'4" weighs in at about 190 so we recognized the boat was a bit out of balance but my 7 yr old insisted he sail it that way. As for lifting the boat on the car, we did place it on the ground transom side down and th...

I figured it out myself. I posted two pictures of my new D5 in the photo gallery "beta". :D :D :D Does anyone have any good ideas about how a single person could get a D5 on top of an SUV by themselves? Any clever ways of doing this? I would like to take out my kids on the boat but cant se...
