Re: Making a gasket
A dremel tool with a fitting. A 1/4" half round cutterhead. I made a plastic insert for the dremel base and put a screw in for a guide. ED0CBF6C-1A7E-4402-AA27-4ED691B57A3C.jpeg893EFB7F-EA5E-43AE-B056-8DDB18329F11.jpeg1D4E0585-7ABC-4CEA-9AD1-B276AF78E86E.jpegC87687AD-2FB7-4946-BB40-97961B32EF9...

Re: Mattkab's GV13
I went to your link and first thing I see is "will not ship to Alaska" I am really tired of this crap. That sucks. I got the same on Amazon too, which surprised me. I assume UPS delivers? There's a UPS store down the street from my house, and I could forward one to you if you'd like... No...

Re: Mattkab's GV13
They are knock-offs, to be sure. By design they separate the heating element (burn chamber) and the cabin air, so unless there's an actual structural failure, they are very safe. And at that price, it's cheap insurance to just have one wrapped in plastic as a spare. But the one on my 4788 is running...

Re: Mattkab's GV13
I'm using a 2kw diesel "parking heater" like this . I love these things... I have a 5kw on our 47'er and it keeps the salon and pilothouse toasty year round. I also have one to heat the garage while working on this boat -- it fights the drafts and never gets quite as warm, but definitely i...

Day 61 Let's drill some holes. Started by drilling two 1.5" holes along the bulkheads for the chase tubes: https://mvcesc.files.wordpress.com/2021/04/20210404_132038.jpg?w=700 This created a ton of plugs: https://mvcesc.files.wordpress.com/2021/04/20210404_132309.jpg?w=700 Once they were all c...

Re: Prepping new fiberglass
I start with 40 grit on the random orbital and hand sanding -- it knocks down the big lumps quickly, and I have found it to be very effective to get a first-round of fairing. I just ordered a scraper to try, based on feedback on another thread too. I use 100 grit on the belt sander because anything ...

Re: What site are people using for photo sharing?
I used Photobucket for years until that went tits up. Then I made my own website (through wordpress, hosted by hostgator). Its not free, but I own & control it completely. Upload is a little clunky from my iPhone, probably could get an app for that instead of mobile web format. +1 for Wordpress...

Re: Scraping and thinning epoxy?
According to this video, it helps saturate the cloth (which I don't know that I'd do), but also helps self-level (which I'm interested in). A quick google search says that acetone and denatured alcohol are both "safe" to thin epoxy up to 10%. I may experiment with it in some lockers of my ...
