A word of caution when cutting out the butt block for the bottom. Make sure you measure how much room you have to work with from the seam to the mid seat brace. If you make the butt block too large, it could end up being directly under the seat brace. I guess this could happen on the side panels as ...

Foam for FL14 ??

Question for all you veteran builders....Is foam needed or recommended for the FL14?

I may use an outboard eventually, would the added stern weight from a motor indicate the need for foam? If I should add foam how much foam (gallons) is needed.

Thanks,
Lisa

Yeah, I guess when I went to the store and saw what 1/4" looked and felt like in person I suddenly had visions of the sidewalls caving in....Hahahaha.

No worries, I will stick to the plans and I am sure all will be fine. Thanks again for your help

Plywood Thickness for FL14

I just got my plans for the FL14 and it calls for 1/4" plywood for the side panels. That seems very thin to me. Would it hurt to use 3/8" for the entire boat? Or would it be too heavy and too difficult to bend? I guess if thousands of boats have been made with 1/4" plywood it must be ...
