AR15 Foredeck Issues

I have joined the pieces for the fordeck of my AR15 using a butt block and now when I clmp it to the rub rails I have a flat spot where the join is. Is there a way I can get the join to curve nicely? I have yet to cut the hole for the spinnaker shute. Should I cut this before or after I attach the d...

AR15 - Foils

I am concerned about the size of the rudder on the AR15 and how well it will perfom the strong gusty Wellington winds. It is smaller than the rudder on my 4 metre skiff. I have modified the design to use a dagger board which is slightly longer than the centerboard in the plans. Has anyone sailed the...

On the other side of the coin scarph joins will give a fairer curve than butt blocks.

AR15 - Holes in station B

I am currently building an AR15 and am contemplating making the hole in the frame at station b into 1 large hole.
Would there be any structural issues if I did this?
What can I do to ensure the structural integrity of this frame?

Kahakatea is a native that is very light and strong, it is also known as White Pine. I have heard of people using it for foils but don't know how flexible it is and if it would be good for a rubrail. We do have Doulas fir here. I am pretty sure it is plantation grown. The problem is that local grown...

Timber for rubrail

For any boat builders out there who didn't use plywood for their rubrails - what timber would you recommend? I am building an AR15 and would like a nice light timber.

I am from New Zealand so the timber suppliers stock a different range of timer.

Would Kahakatea be suitable?

Fireball spars/rigging/sails for AR15

Does anyone know if the fireball rigging would suit the AR15 the specs are at: http://www.fireball-dinghy.org.uk/specs.htm I have been looking for 2nd hand rigging, spars and sails to save me some cash and just missed out on a 2nd hand 470 (with trailer) for $500NZ. (p.s. I promise to put up some ph...

AR15 Bow

I am building an AR15 and am having problems stitching the bow together. I have read all the other threads about the excess matarial at the bow and have used Richstrats method of removing the excess. My problem is that I cant get the bow to stitch together nicely, it gets all twisted and the chines ...

AR15 in Wellington

Finally after months of assing around I finally got my AR15 started. I had a mate round to help me cut out the frames and it turned out to be a bit of an intelligence test. We couldn't work out how to draw the camber on the frames that are nested in two pieces. I ended up marking out the full ...
