Repairing underside of Polyester Resin Carolina Skiff Casting Deck. Using marine plywood on underside. Will mixture of epoxy and wood flour bond to the casting deck when clean and dry?

Re: front casting deck wood rotted on fixer upper Carolina Skiff

Planned on using wood flour to coat the underside of the casting deck after sanding off the glass left after removing wood blocks. Any thoughts on that?

front casting deck wood rotted on fixer upper Carolina Skiff

:help: Hoping to spruce up an old skiff (2002) while deciding on our next build. Took off the casting deck after seeing a number of rotted spots while cleaning out under it. We took the casting deck off and flipped it over onto a piece of plywood for a brace. The top layer of glass came right off wi...

Re: FS 17 More floor problems

I've decided to cut a slot 3" wide and get rid of the 1x3. Whatever is happening under there the 1x3 is not working. Then glue a 9" piece of ply from underneath. That will give me 3" under each side. I don't have any 1/2" ply. Can I glue two pieces of 1/4" together? I don't ...

Re: FS 17 More floor problems

Guys This is occurring at both front and rear seams. That would mean every 1x3 split on the grain. Not likely it would happen at every one. I'm out of town working so I can't check the plans but I don't recall that it needed a taped joint underneath the sole. Besides, the 2 layers of tape on top sho...

Re: FS 17 More floor problems

I drilled holes and injected glue the first time it happened. That got me thru the summer. The second time I cut about a 3/16" grove down the seams, injected glue, weighted it then covered it with 1 layer of tape. This time I opened up the seams, juked glue in with a putty knife till I was sure...

Re: FS 17 More floor problems

The pics are really hard to see. It failed this time on the rear seam on the port side. It failed on all the seams the last time.
The seams are on 1x3 pine blocks instead of plywood but I thought a double tape on the top would take the place of the butt block regardless.

Re: FS 17 More floor problems

Not a plywood butt block. I joined it on a 1x3 pine block in the frame. I'll show you a pic. http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/30868/normal_DSCN1348.JPG You can see in the frame the 1x3, Don't know why it didn't glue down right. Willie PS Read you can't come to the meet. What's up? Hope eve...

FS 17 More floor problems

Hey everyone, I'm still having the same problem with the seams in the floor seperating. I sanded it down to wood and glass, reglued the seam and put on 2 layers of tape. It sat in the garage for 3 weeks while I faired it and painted it and the first day it was outside the rear seam failed again. :cr...
