Re: MY C17

I second what RMarsh is telling you. Measuring at the stern, one panel is narrower/shorter at about 15 inches or 388 mm. In your diagram it is labeled Upper Chine. (My plans are packed away somewhere). This panel goes on first. The wider, taller panel, labeled Lower Chine will go on second. This wil...

Re: I'm frustrated with wet-out

My tips: when using a roller, roll in one direction only, from center towards edge. Roll off the edge before lifting roller. Don't roll too much or the epoxy foams and then doesn't stick as well. I mostly use the flexible plastic spreaders originally meant for auto body work, but available at HD, et...

Re: Optima Batteries

Thumbs up for AGM's. Flooded cell batteries usually lasted me about two or three years in my jeeps. They typically failed because of the vibration from off-roading. I can't tell you how long they will last - because after 6 and 12 years later they are both still working even thought they have been c...

Hey IKE - the net seems a little smaller today. Or I have way to much free time.
Welcome "aboard".

Re: CS 25 Build North Carolina

Who are you guys? You must have a whole team working on this. I think we need to re-assign the surveillence team to this builders location.

Re: Topwaters NV23

I can't argue against good tools. But I would also suggest there is a place for cheap tools. I've had both. After a while it starts to feel like the tools and other stuff own you, instead of the other way around. Also, I haven't found the table saw that important when playing around with boats. Clea...

Re: Topwaters NV23

Table saw... how much precision do you need. If you are not a woodworker, not building furniture or cabinets, and not planning on becoming a woodworker - I would go a different direction and just get a benchtop table saw. When not in use... you stick it on a shelf.

Re: Topwaters NV23

I also envy your shop. In regards to your jig, as you have discovered, those nice long 2x8 are free to bend in the middle and knock things out of alignment. Instead of drilling holes in your floor, you can put a strongback on the vertical 2x8, so they are T or L shaped. X-shaped lattice could also h...

Cheap ACK canoes

Kayaks rent for $90 per day... so I sponsored a family building project - two cheap canoes for less than $300. I treated these as "disposable", and took some serious short cuts, like using underlayment instead of marine ply, elmers for spot welding, no fairing, etc. http://gallery.bateau2....

Re: "Boat builders hall of shame"

I apparently put the cap from the hardener on the resin, and the resin cap on the hardener last time. I needed channel lock pliers to get the jugs open.
