Try lowering the blade some. Too much blade showing can cause binding especially after it heats up. If that doesn't work, buy a new blade with lots of teeth that are tipped with chunky little carbide tips - not slender ones.

Thanks ks for the voice of reason and encouragement for working the ideas. I'm not wanting to be a rebel and rub people the wrong way but I would like the boat to do what I want it to do. There's nothing revolutionary about this cat ketch rig except the storing of backward raking masts along the gun...

I've come to realize that having the masts in two parts each actually makes it harder to step them at sea rather than easier and the 5' lower sections that I had planed for only increase the length of the masts by 3'. There was enough room along the gunwales to make the main section 3' longer and st...

I appreciate the feedback on my drawing especially the comment about being able to step the masts at sea. I have tried this with my dory skiff (15' mast) and yes it is difficult but not impossible. It should be much easier with a ballasted boat with the centerboard down and like I've said before I w...

Gee, you guys didn't catch what was really wrong with my drawing. The centerboard was so long that it would be coming up into the mizzen mast when up. I had to shorten it some so that the mizzen mast could still step near the keel and rotate, but it's still longer than in the plans to compensate for...

Dr. Bones and Fishing Dan, This rig is intended for fishing and sailing with a two man crew in mind. In my area nine times out of ten in the early morning there's no wind and we will motor out to fish on the flats for redfish or sea trout or if we are feeling adventurous and have all day we hope to ...

AD16 rigged for fishing

http://128.186.7.22/ken/AD16rigged4fishing.jpg Jacques said I could post this cat ketch rig that breaks down for fishing as long as everyone realizes that he does not favor this sail plan, at least this version of it. The idea is to have a rig where the masts are curved enough to store along the gu...

Jacque and Ralph, the main things I like about a sailboat that can fish is that first there are two propulsion systems that you can utilize to get home rather than just one. OK, you could have dual motors but that would just be twice as many stink pots to deal with and maintain. Secondly, I like to ...

Hello Jacques, Are you thinking that the mizzen will be stepped when fishing? The whole point of what I'm trying to do is that the masts will be in sections small enough so that they can be unstepped and stored along the gunwales out of the way for fishing. I'm thinking of laminating an arch across ...

Hello Jacques, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my cat ketch ideas. I do respect your opinions and I will reduce the sail area as the result of your observation. Also I suspected that the cat ketch rig may require a different centerboard to adjust the center of lateral resistance and give...
