Congrats Don,
You'll be just in time for the spring yellow fin run!

btw, $400 for 20 horses is great. When I priced the 330 vs 370 it was aboug $4k difference (I didn't bite either).

Thanks for the info, I was on the fence and didn't wat to buy a motor I couldn't use. I hadn't really thought about the hull being displacement. My loacal dealer has a 4hp suzuki leftover that's a couple of hundred cheaper than new. Best of all it's a 4 stroke & means no mixing gas. From here sa...

Outboard shaft lenght for V12

I'm prepaing to build the v12 for use with an outboard and have come across a 4hp with 20 inch shaft at a decent price.

I was wondering if I could use that long of a shaft on my V12 or could I possibly modify the transom some without runing the look?

Thanks,
John

Martin, Excellent Job

I've got my plans and epoxy kit and will be starting in April if all goes well.

I especially appreciate seeing the step by step pictures. You've given me some ideas for when I start mine.

Congrats!!

Thanks KS,
4 hp 4 stroke may be very heavy. My Merc with gas is 80 lbs!
I handn't really thought in terms of weight...

I just looked at the specs for the Suzuki 4hp & its 55lbs. I'll look for the honda dealer tomorrow at the show, I just hate to pay such a premium as they usuall command.

Paul, I thought of another question,

What finish did you use (type & method)? I really like the Blue hull and white interior.

I haven't yet decided on color, will probably let the wife and kids help there, give them a stake in the project as well.

Thanks,
John

Paul, Thanks for the center board insight. Do you think I could retro fit the centerboard at a later date? My kids are 5 & 3 so they wouldn't be sailing it now, but in 2 or 3 more years it would be a good experience for them. Otherwise, I'll probabl go with a plug, maybe from the bottom with a t...

To all, thanks for the responses. I'm going to the Baltimore baot show tomorrow and will see what kind of deals I can round up. I'm probably going to stick with the 4 or less 4-stroke motor. Paul, great job! I'd seen your pictures before and hope to do have as good. I wasn't planning on the sailing ...

V12 outboard size

I just got my plans and epoxy & hope to begin to build in March, after the weather breaks. For now, I'll be looking for an outboard at this winter's boat shows. Which leads me to my question. I'm building the v12 for service as a dingy/tender hauling up to 4 adults. I want to make sure I get eno...
