I have a boom on my V12, predominantly because I changed the sail plan and the sheeting angle was all out of whack. It works very well. I had to lengthen my mast so I could sit on the seats without risk of being knocked on the head by the boom - so if you are going with a boom, be sure to make the m...

If you've cut your panels correctly, there shouldn't be a problem. There's a fair amount of twist in the front of those two bottom panels - to me it looks like you've just got a bit of work to line them all up properly. One common technique used to get the two bottom panels sitting correctly is to l...

My sail is approximately 5 sq.metres - or 54sq ft., and I think it is an ideal size. I've also had mine out in some pretty hairy winds, and I am yet to capsize.

Isn't there a "comfort formula" devised by Ted Brewer in his book "Understanding Boat Design"? And Dave Gerr talks about the rate of heave in "The Nature of Boats" - again, related to how a boat bobs around on the water. He has a formula for this. Perhaps this is a good...

Skipper Ed, Reading throught the posts, I've just remembered something essential about making changes to sail area/boom/mast etc. If you change the sail shape, your sheeting angle changes. As Laszlo said in an earlier post, sailing loose footed is fine if your sheeting angle is right. As the sail an...

BTW, great photo Laszlo! What is the area on that sail? Have you tried a sprit as well as a bermudian rig? I'd be interested to hear if there was much difference in performance betrween the two.

Hi Ed, Sounds like you're having a blast with your V10. I agree with 90% of what Laszlo has said except re the raising of the mast and boom - I have done this with my V12 and it is a vast improvement. What Laszlo says about raising the centre of gravity and centre of effort is essentially correct, h...
