Re: Towing a Skier with a Classic 17

I grew up skiing behind boats with motors from 50hp-65, with an occasional tow behind someone with a "big" OMC 115. Even as an adult behind a 60hp, I get up on one ski, no dropping needed. No, the boat won't "pop" me up, but it is very do-able. It does help that we have a 4-blade...

Re: I think I need a project................BBV?

Something to think about if you want that Ferrari motor - I think most of the motors they build are flat crank, and don't have that "blub-blub blub" exhaust note that most V8's have... I just bring this up, because for a lot of people, having a inboard V8 in a smaller boat is more about th...

Re: Curacao CS 25

There is a Texas fishing internet forum I frequent with a very active "boat for sale" classified. Home built boats show up on there fairly often (once ever month or two). Seems most of them start the listing with "Custom" and a starting price tag about 125% of a similar mid-level...

Re: C17 Center Console

Re: New/Modified Plan

Interesting timing on this. Just last week I was talking with a fishing buddy, having one of those "how cool would it be to..." conversations... We were talking about trying to find a used, big pontoon or tri-toon, in the 10'x30' range, adding a small bunkhouse (15' or so long, maybe buy a...

Re: Questions about CC14, Plyak12, WV13?

RE: stanting in a kayak - this is more a question of the kayaker, over the kayak. I have a buddy that can stand in a 22" beam, 16' greenland style boat, (Cormorant) and another buddy that needs a 36" boat to stand with confidence... Personally, I could stand in my 12'x30" Walden Cuda ...

Re: canoe choices

Bones: Sounds like you know what you are doing on the water. I am guessing you will have no issue with the Chenoa stability or tracking. I really like mine. The only issue I have with it is that I don't get to use it enough. Edit - I don't own any flat bottom canoes/kayaks, but I have paddled...

Re: canoe choices

I can paddle mine reasonably straight on my own by switching sides every 2 strokes. Don't know about this j stroke thing, I'm off to look that up now! There are probably videos of it on u-tube. I learned as a kid in Scouts. Basically, you want the blade to make the letter "J" in the water...

Re: canoe choices

I built a Chenoa 14 a few years ago; I'll answser what I can. I'd be worried with a big dog in it moving around. It has decent stability, but nothing like a flat bottom canoe. I have never turned it over, though, and I can stand in it. I have my seats set about 5" below the gunnels. If there is...
