Scott, Hope I don't rain on your parade, but a hydrofoil is designed to help with getting a boat to plane. If the motor is setup correctly on the boat, the foil should be out of the water or jsut skimming it when the boat is planning. If not, you will lose speed. What type of prop are you using? I j...

Yup, the pisser. Blow backwards and that help get rid of any junk in there. Running without the t-stat may help get all that out (if there's anything in there). Compressed air may help also.
