Re: Expanding foam calculations

Indeed, detailed step by step instructions like that are super valuable to the next guy with the same question. Especially with the very specific helpful hints you included. Next time around, I'm using that "start at the corners" thing- I usually start in the middle and end up filling crac...

Re: Expanding foam calculations

I didn't notice before, but glad to have another Wisconsin guy on the board. I'm only about an hour east of you. And that's a nice looking boat so far!

Re: Expanding foam calculations

Reply for Joe about big batches- Good idea on using the exotherm heat for additional expansion. I've never used real big batches, but that does make sense. The difficulty lies in getting it mixed completely- this stuff is a really horrible mess if it's not mixed well and doesn't react completely. Al...

Re: Expanding foam calculations

I haven't used pool noodles to replace foam but I've used sheets of closed cell Styrofoam to "stretch" my expanding foam when it looked like I wouldn't have quite enough to finish filling a boat. Cut sheets of pink or blue foam, lay them in flat areas of the boat that you are filling, then...

Re: Expanding foam calculations

The 2lb foam is supposed to expand 30:1, but it never does for me. A couple things I've found that might be helpful: Wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt that you can throw away. This stuff is messy if you get it on you. The hotter it is the better the foam expands. The temperature of the boat hull, ...

Re: Stitch and Glue Pedal Boat

Yup. It's simple and durable. Just takes them a little bit to figure out which way you turn as you push and pull. I'm pretty happy with how this one worked out, the only thing I'd change is to use a bigger gear on the paddles, the pedaling effort is a little high, but it moves along pretty well comp...

Re: Stitch and Glue Pedal Boat

I never posted pics of the final product. Here it is. Abby picked the color. I let the kids pick any color they want as long as it's bright so we can identify them easily out on the lake, and to maximize their visibility so the jet skiers and wakeboarders don't run them over. https://forums.bateau2....

Re: 8' Cheap Canoe for Little Kids

I never put up launch pics. Shame on me. After our first test launch, we determined that it didn't track well- way too "wiggly" when he paddled. I added a full length skeg about 1 1/4" tall. That made a huge difference. We added a backrest too. It's still not painted- thinking it'll b...

Re: Smaller pontoon boat- EC24 or PC20 but shorter?

correct, normally 2, sometimes up to 6. I'm ok with that being a bit of a squeeze since it's not the normal.
