Galleys

Just a general design question, why is the galley always on the port side of a vessel? Is it just tradition or is there a some standard of old that is still used.

It floats, and runs like a champ. I was a little concerned with how it would float with the bracket but the calcs were right. The white boot stripe is 4" abouve the chine and the water line is lower than expected. Time to fish. http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/14360/DSC00410.JPG http:...

Staining of Paint

I painted the topsides with the System Three paint. I am having problems with staining. I used the hardener provided on every coat and I used 4 coats and it sat in my garage for three weeks. The paint is very hard as I found when wet sanding a run but it stains very easily. Has anyone ever had this ...

I have put two soles into two different size pangas. A friend of mine was importing a line called Starlite built much like the one you have. We had to add soles and floatation to get USCG certification to sell them. We made foam stringers and a foam deck and filled voids with floatation foam because...

Tom is right. When I said block plain I meant board file. That is the only way to get the surface fair. I hold the board file parallel to my chest and sand in 45 degree strokes, this will give the flattest results.

I have been using a Porter Cable 7336 variable speed RO sander for years. I used to install hardwood floors and this was the sander of choice. It will cut fairing compound easily with 80 grit sandpaper but I would not use anything rougher than 100 on the Quik Fair with this sander. The problem is th...

I am ready to non-skid and the instructions say to add the non-skid to desired amount. Doe's anyone have an idea of how much is good or how much to start with? Also with the S3 should you reduce the paint to a brushing thickness or not at all. I think this would have an effect on the suspension of t...
