Epoxy repair on previous graphite impregnated epoxy surface.

Hi Guys, Haven't been on this site since I started sailing my V10, now for a question on behalf of a kayak buddy. Her kayak was built by someone else and it appears that the wetted surface was coated with graphite impregnated epoxy. Since then, numerous beachings and launches later, the keel section...

Varnish removal

How can you remove varnish runs on 2 part paint? I painted my dinghy with epiphanes 2 pt lp paint an subsequently varnished the bright areas. I have some streaks of varnish which need removal. Any suggestions?

UV Degradation Epoxy does degrade under UV. Polyester doesn't. It's that simple, that is one of the reasons most builders used poyester. The gelcoat is simply a mixture of polyester resin and pigment and will last for up to 40 years. Epoxy needs UV protection, either with an overcoat of polyurethane...

If you measured and cut according to the plans, it will fit, even though right until it does, it may not look like it. I used the traditional steel wire combined with cable ties to stitch mine. I then built my fillets section by section, tying everything down to ensure symmetry. When it all cured, I...

Rope Trimmed Rubrail

I am thinking about protecting my bright finished rubrail using a rope surround.

Is this easily done? Do you wire in the rope? Epoxy?

Do you stretch the rope wet then let it shrink around the gunwhale?

Ideas? Feedback?

I am planning on going with a bright finish for my rubrails on the canoe and going with solid 1x2's. My question is can I coat them with epoxy and then bend them? This way I would be able to paint the boat with the rub rails off so that I have no conflicts with getting paint on them, and them just ...

v12 Seat Cleat Placement

The seat cleats are one area of annoyance for me during building the V10 and I'm afraid I didn't do a good job of it. If I had to do it again, I'd laminate the seat onto the mid frame bulkhead with the boat levelled upright in a cradle. Then when it set, but not fully cured, I'd flip it and fit the ...
