Re: Fun video of building a strip canoe
I really did not think Andy had that big of a following. Total Boat in this particular video really surprised me because the young lady's uncle appears to be a seasoned builder, and Total Boat is a newer player in the market. Their epoxy seems to be fairly expensive and most experieinced builders te...

Re: Fun video of building a strip canoe
Seen this before and liked it on youtube. Cool as my daughter and I are doing some cedar canoes. A lot of people are using total boat products lately. Really has surprised me. I used TotalFair for a recent project and it was fine. But I would say at least 1/2 the projects I have seen in the last 6 m...

Re: Help selecting a boat design
One engineer to another, don't waste your time putting the boat in CAD. Spend your time building it. The boats are designed in cad which the export to plans. no need to add errors by doing it again.

Re: GF16 $300
Some pictures may help. I dont think your issue is price (noting you dropped it) but people have no idea where you are buildwise, a picture tells the story.

Re: General Outboard Maintenance?
Add marine Sta-bil in each tank if you don't run the gas out of the tank in a month. Close air vents on tank? Hmmm. we don't leave the tanks connected so I don't think the vents would matter. we don't typically put marine Sta-bil because we go through so much fuel but maybe for the time being, we s...

General Outboard Maintenance?
We have a fleet of jonboats at the canoeing club, with relatively new tohatsu 9.9s (which IIRC are just Nissans). Due to the pandemic, they are not getting used much. Normally, coaches dock them, shut them off, pull the tanks off and go. Usually they are used again within a day or so thus it has not...

Re: Aluminum stiffener
"5200 to Aluminum" shear strength is about 1/3 the shear strength when compared to gelcoat (which is where it is most commonly used) and most common woods. I would not recommend it.

Re: Fl 26 modifications
Definitely would be keen to read what JM says about this, it is an interesting change set. I have always had a preference for flush decks and as I have gotten older, the compromises of a pilot house have grown on me. I would be concerned about the weight added to the bow areas, the design seems to h...
