Re: Modern pour foam

Back to the original question, somewhere over on the Wooden Boat forum, someone took a piece of common Styrofoam and immersed it in a bucket of water for like a year. At the end of that time, it had not absorbed any appreciable water (by weight). I had a boat that was a Boston Whaler knock off with ...

I take it you have never been to a Chuck E Cheese.

As noted above, they are an incubation medium for every upper respiratory infection known to Western Civilization.

Snot of the half shell.

Re: GV15

I think the "best" solution is cruising eEbay for a blown engine with a long shaft lower, and swap out the lowers. It's an easy mechanical project. Depending on your exact model, Mercury may be the identical engine. I know OMC has an extension for the lower -- it certainly is worth a phone...

Take comfort in the fact that Tohatsu is typically the lightest motor in it's class. Take further comfort in the fact that when to deckside cowboys start riding you for using an "off brand: motor that Mercury up to 40 HP are rebranded Tohatsus. Black paint apparently costs about $400 -500 an en...

Re: Needing some Education

Hey guys! I've run into 2 problems, and need some input... 1) Are bilge pumps supposed to have a check valve in them? Or will water run back down through them if the outlet is submerged? The pumps don't have check valves. Usually not a problem. You can put a loop in the discharge line with th...

Re: GF14 vs FS18

Just want to point out that materials and time to build are the same for the GF14 and GF16 -- and the GF16 provides a lot more room and opportunity to customize.

Re: 3/16" ply -vs- 1/4" ply

A layer of FG/epoxy weighs more than one ply of plywood. You don't save weight by reducing the thickness of the plywood and increasing the amount of FG/epoxy. sorry but cannot be true.. . Really? Oh, but it can. You might take the time to actually read my post before attempting to rebut it. No one ...

Re: Amyway to get the xf20 to turn

Geez, I thought sliding a flat bottom boats through curves was one of the advantages of the style. Can someone explain why "turning" a boat is better than "sliding" a boat.? 'Course I was raised in a time and area where being able to make a bootlegger's turn was included in drive...

Re: Flotation calculation - need some information!

the gas tank will float. That's interesting. I never figured on the gas tank, but it makes perfect sense. It's a variable amount, but could ba a lot of flotation if it's only 1/4 full. wade If you build in coolers, you can include them for their flotation too (the foam material, not the volume.). T...
