To me a decent period would be 6 to 8 seconds or longer. For 3 to 4 foot.

Do you have trim tabs? How slow can you stay on plane with the bracket?

I just finished a transom job on my 20 foot stratos cc and I found that A hammer and a sharp wide chisel will get the last of wood off the glass easily. It will make a lot less dust than the grinder. I hate grinding.
