V10 Finished and splashed!

The warm weather has finally arrived in upstate NY, so we could FINALLY christen, launch, row, and sail the completed V-10, named "Maiden." (my wife suggested we put the hailing port on the transom along with the name so that it would read, "Maiden: Delmar, NY") :? Anyway, it was...

Thanks, KS

As a boat-building virgin, I appreciate the endorsement! Thanks. My two other boats are a Swedish-build Scanmar 33 on Narragansett Bay, and a Gloucester 19 on a mooring on a lake in upstate NY. The V10 will be used as a tender on cruises with the Scanmar, and most often as a dinghy to get out to the...

Jacques, yes, I understand about the epoxy gaps, and I found that I could better control the pressure with screws than with half-dozen un-adjustable spring clamps that I have. Screw-type clamps would be optimal for sure. I just thought that screws turned out to be a workable substitute for those of ...

V10 mostly finished (photo)

Well guys, thanks again. Couldna done it without you and this forum. It's my first boat and I'm doggone happy with the result. Since it's February and I live in NY, it'll be a while before I'll find out how it rows and sails. But that will give me time to build the daggerboard, rudder, mast partner,...

V10: Screws instead of clamps for rubrail?

Hi all, This may be more of a suggestion than a question, because I've already done it and it worked. But I would like to know what downsides you more experienced builders can see. To explain... When it came time to attach the rubrails (or gunwales) to the hull, I wondered why I couldn't use screws ...

Don't use Dynel unless...

you own stock in a resin company! Although I'm building my first boat, I can offer this bit of advice with confidence. I debated whether or not to sheath the exterior hull of my V10, but decided that I would opt for Dynel's abrasion resistant qualities. I had read in advance in this forum that Dynel...
