Standing and fishing
Steven...I'm building the smaller GF 14 and I chose it because specifically to stand and flycast in as well as a "perch-jerkin'" boat for me and the boys (7 and 5) and the wife. I wanted a perfectly flat bottom for stability. I was willing to sacrifice a smoother ride for rock-steady casti...

I'm almost positive they're optional
I'm sitting at work so I don't have the plans but I'm almost positive the plans called them optional. No matter...I've crumbled under the pressure and will be putting on the rails.
Thanks for all the help.

Have you considered canvas?
I'm looking at the same issue on my GF14, not for rain but for sun. My Irish ancestry doesn't do well in the desert lakes. I know you can get canvas covers, plastic windows, and frames that simply fold neatly away when not in use which is the solution I'm looking at. They even have an icon showing m...

You've made me change my mind about a spray rail
Gee...being an NT/Visual Studio guy I don't know if I'm welcome to post a reply :( I wasn't going to do a spray rail on my GF14 but I am now reconsidering. Sure, the pics look great, but will I actually stay drier running through a wind chop? Considering the law of diminishing returns...if a 1 inch ...

Where to put the gas tank and battery?
I just put the bottom on my GF14 and I'm still amazed that all these pieces actually fit...my boys are already fightin over what color she should be. I've been doing some reading of the other posts regarding battery and fuel tank placement and it appears that the further forward you can get the weig...

Lessons learned from the GF14
janhom One thing you'll find repeated on this site is that the wood is not near a critical as the resin and glass fabric. I see you're building a GF14...just as I am. I'm now at the stage of flipping the boat to attach the bottom. It is surprisingly easy but I do have 2 suggestions that I learned wh...

jacques...because fir plywood requires the additional resin, won´t you end up with a stronger boat using cheaper wood or is it only the glass that is the determining factor?

I´m having a blast with my GF14...I can´t believe it went together so fast and came out square to boot. My first attemp was a one-sheet skiff for the boys that is now in the burn pile so I was a bit concerned about my ability.

I´m getting close to the "Coat with epoxy" stage and hav...
