I would say if you could afford it to get the maximum horses Jacques recommends. Once you load the boat down with a few people and gear you will wish you had a 50 instead of a 25. You can always throttle back and save more gas with a bigger motor or you can run full-out with a smaller motor trying t...

I had a fiberglass skiff with a 40 and I was running just over 30. My sister has a 17' aluminum jon-boat with a console and she has a 50 on it and she runs about 35. My GV-17 does 38 with a 70 so I say you will hit in the low to mid 30's. I'm sure you will do that with no problem with a 50hp! Oh tho...

Paul thanks for the tip. I was planning on making my own, but because of time restraints went ahead and bought the smart-rails. Haven't installed them yet. I must say that customer service at smart-rails is outstanding. Chris at smart-rails has been reviewing pic's of the GV on boatplansonline.com t...

I put scuppers in the side of my GV-17. When you back the boat down on the trailer on a steep ramp water will enter through the scuppers. When you pull back off the throttle to stop, water will enter through the scuppers. On the GV the sole slopes downward toward the bow I guess so it supposedly sit...

Thanks Jerry, I appreciate that. I was a little annoyed by no responses especially since I have purchased plans for a half dozen boats from this site and materials for the GV. Anyway that sounds like a good idea about the pictures, because I was thinking of purchasing the smart rails and they aren't...
