Re: Shine ALEXSEAL?
I just ran into the Alexseal rep at the Newport Boat show. He said it was developed by the same guy who created AwlGrip. There is an article here http://www.lackeysailing.com/daysailor/sidebars/alexseal.htm For application over epoxy, he said it was 2 steps. They also have a reducer for roll and tip.

Re: Epoxy or wood glue???
"The major advantage of epoxies is that they do not lose bonding power when they are used for gap-filling. Other glues fail in this regard. Consequently epoxy is a good choice when you have to glue parts that cannot be made to fit precisely" http://www.diyinfo.org/wiki/Types_Of_Glue For wh...

Re: Epoxy or wood glue???
I just built a couple Adirondack chairs and one of my epoxy joints "popped". Bad prep...you have to wet it out and make sure you don't squeeze out all the epoxy. I looked that joint and there was only a little epoxy. If its not an area required to hold the boat together, it might not matte...

Re: Frames in the boats- FL14
Huh? I built an FL14. My seat benches have drain holes to let the water sit at the lowest point. The seats also have openings for storage. In smaller boats, some might totally seal the seat area to create and air pocket for flotation. In that case, they usually add an inspection port. I haven't seen...

Re: Clear fillers
And in answer to the question: thick clearish epoxy can be obtained with transparent (white when dry) micro-balloons and a little silica. Thank Tony, thats very helpful. I just used to call everything "filler" although I know some have different properties than other, I wasn't sure why. I...

Clear fillers
I mixed a little cabosil in with my epoxy when I was covering my rubrail - I wanted it to have a little gap filling properties. I wasn't sure if it would be clear, but it is. I added a couple heaping teaspoons to 3 oz epoxy - it was reasonably thick...thinner than ketchup, but close. I dont need to ...

Re: Houghs Neck Skiff
Well, its been 3 seasons I have had this boat in the water and I thought I would update folks with my experiences. http://houghsneckskiff.shutterfly.com The old pics from 2006 and the new ones are there. I sanded the bottom down to wood and applied glass cloth 12oz and tape. Its filled with graphite...

Re: FL-12 Bottom Butt Block
I understand I need to assemble the pieces.... that wasn't my question. My question is; how do I ensure the bottom butt block will be covered by the seat? How do I know exactly where to place it? I get it....the butt block isn't between the seats in the FL14 and I had to deal with those exposed edg...

Re: FL12 frame "battens"
I built the FL14...not 100% sure what you mean by the battens, but if you mean the wood strips that help support the seat - I used something like a 1" x 3/4" piece. Rip a strip of 3/8 ply to 1" and glue 2 together. Thats more than enough. You could probably get away with 1 strip becau...
