Re: WouldWork's D5 Build Northern Australia

As per my thread in 'Resins' section I am discontinuing this build for now. Unfortunately the resin I ordered was seemingly mis-labelled with the Part A bottle having Part B labels and vice versa. The resin has not cured and I am not confident that I can successfully disassemble and clean the ply to...

Re: Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

Final update, Looks like it's confirmed that the labels were on the wrong bottles. My test batch with ratios reversed has set without issue. The resin came in 6 x 1L bottles, 4 of them part A and 2 of them part B, so aside from the initial part A and B bottles that I used I don't know which of the o...

Re: Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

I had a bad batch when making my CC14 canoe - I smelled like white vinegar for weeks. I also remember a bad batch on my V12 sailing dinghy rudder…. It’s horrible stuff to clean, but that’s why we love it, it STAYS ON!!! I’ve just reversed the ratio as a test and made a batch of 1:2 instead of ...

Re: Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

***Update*** The supplier finally got back to me this morning. They had a batch go out where they’d mislabelled bottles ‘A’ with labels ‘B.’ They use the same shape and size bottles for A & B (which is rather silly if you ask me and again another reason that prompted me to double check when usin...

Re: Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

The reasons I’m sure it’s not a mix or ratio error are; 1. Working with my son, building this boat with him and teaching him how to do it. Hence everything I did was said out loud, checked and double checked before pouring, and then telling him we have to stir for at least a couple of minutes. 2. We...

Re: Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

Thanks for the reply. Resin is 2:1 (it’s the only one I could get.) I’ve previously always used 3:1 or 5:1 but availability is a real problem at the moment so I read some reviews that were all positive, some in marine/boat building applications, and went with this stuff. Double checked when mixing, ...

Cold climate epoxy users please HELP!

Question for those in colder climates that affect resin kick. I’m in tropical northern Australia so cold temps are almost never a consideration when using epoxy. However this new brand of resin I have (unbeknownst to me before it arrived) says it needs 15 degrees (Celsius) temp to cure. Now I’m gett...

Re: Shanty boat build - self design BBC materials

As I started building another boat last week I've been reading through posts catching up, as I've been absent from the board for quite a while. It's nice to see many builds that I previously watched have now hit the water and some other exciting projects are on the go - this being one of them. I fin...

Re: WouldWork's D5 Build Northern Australia

Resin and glass turned up today so I bought some gloves and masks and got busy. Taped up with gaff, primed with resin and tacked with thickened resin. Spent some time scraping excesses away to save on sanding. Not my neatest work ever but not too bad. Remove the tape and zip ties in the morning, see...

Re: VG23 New Build

Always wanted to learn how to weld - plenty of advice/tutorials online. How hard can it be I bought a little stick welder a couple of years ago having said the exact same thing..... Honestly though, after blowing several holes in my steel, a few dozen bits that fell apart and a lot of swearing, tid...
