Re: WV13 Epic Fail
I built the original stringer to the plans and thought my COG was entirely too high after testing it as seen above. I took 2" (if I remember correctly) off the stringer height in the plans and it is significantly more stable and the sole is still above the waterline. I used a dremel with a cut ...

Re: OptiMystics WV13
I should have pointed out that when I put them in I'll do as I did for the tube in the bow and stern for handles and that is wrap the PVC in fiberglass tape then fiberglass the external tape on the outside of the tube to the hull. If for some reason it ever leaked it is still in a fiber glass tube a...

Re: OptiMystics WV13
I've seen the second one and plan on something similar but not as high and 2 of the rod holders below with the bottom sealed off and maybe a partial tray under the cap. http://www.mateseries.com/gallery/plastic-side.JPG http://www.mateseries.com/gallery/kayak_corona.jpg I'll have to check the youtub...

Re: VA - WV13
In the picture the stringers are per the plan and I'm sitting on a 1x4 across them. There is way too much freeboard in my opinon so that's why I'm considering removing ~2 inches. Hind sight being 20/20 I should have taped the water line when I had it in, so I'm going to re-float it and mark it befor...

Re: OptiMystics WV13
Thanks. My first time with major fiberglass work so it has been a learning process. I saw your post on mine after I posted the one above. I just posted some float testing I've done, it has been too cold for resin to kick off and also hunting season. I finished some of the fillets for the seat string...

Re: VA - WV13
Not done yet, it has been too cold for resin to kick off but my goal is to finish this before I start my cobia tower for the big boat and the offshore season is around the corner so I'm going to be kicking it in high gear soon. I did manage to do a float test to see if I was happy with the height of...

Re: OptiMystics WV13
I've been considering a very similar rod storage to mine but I may carry it forward instead of aft.

Re: VA - WV13
Thanks.
There was no template really, a pencil and a steady hand with the router. I used a cap to something random in the garage for the circle then sketched the fillets in.

Re: VA - WV13
That is just fiberglass tape on the seams, though I am considering putting a layer of glass on the bottom for extra protection. The extra weight trade off may not be worth it though. My okoume had an extra couple inches past the last station line so I used a router to cut the puzzle then lined it up...

VA - WV13
So I have finally made enough progress worth a post but first a few questions. I need suggestions on building a rod locker through the floor of the sole for surf landings. I need to cut holes in the frames so the compartments aren't sealed so I figured I would cut a square even to the floor, stringe...
