Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
I'm a terrible poster.. I finally got the paint to stick last spring. I discovered while wet sanding, that if the water beads up, then the paint won't stick. Once I sanded the "slick spots" until the water stopped beading, and the paint went on well. Duh! I'm still not certain where my con...

Re: XXXF20 Build
Beautiful motor and really cool boat. I've followed your build with great admiration and probably a slight addiction. Please tell me that you installed grab rails and I missed it. I'd hate for you to stop posting because you fell off the boat and got seriously dead!! Hope you get the prop dialed in ...

Re: 1971 170 Aquasport Rebuild
Rick, I just got through putting VC performance on my boat. I was really pleased with it. It orange peeled and I had to tip off the air bubbles but it is hard as a rock and slick as snot (has Teflon.). The orange peel can be easily wet sanded smooth but I'm trying not to get that involved because I'...

Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
Thanks, Jacques! That's some good info. Is there a way to post it in the FAQ or how to's? It' would be a good document to read before doing any painting. Of course, it's possible that it is already there and I missed it.

Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
Thanks Steven! Did you use "Flag Blue"? I just went through a few pages of your build and I will be pleased as punch if my paint job turns out half as good as yours. It's good to hear that the topcoat/primer combo is not an issue. I really liked the S3 and want to use it with the Perfectio...

Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
Thanks for the quick replies. Gary, I'll try the auto-body de-waxing thing. That's a good idea. I used alcohol in between primer coats, but nothing on top of that except the brushing reducer as recommended by Interlux. I washed with Palmolive with "Oxy" because that's what we have under th...

Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
After some internet research and thinking, I believe I have a case of surface contamination. It could be: 1. Something in the well water 2. Stearates in the sandpaper 3. Something in the Lowes roller tray left over from production 4. Something on the roller 5. A poor job cleaning the boat I plan to ...

Re: Classic C-Hawk 18 Rebuild
I'm a slack poster. It's been hard making the weather coincide with my time off from work, but I've made some pretty good progress on the bottom of the boat. I repaired the damaged part on the keel just like Joel suggested and it turn out great. Just not sure where the picture went. I put 3 c...

Re: Custom 17 skiff
Joel, is a single depth 3/4 good for his stringers, or should he double two 3/8 to get the 3/4, and get more interior plys? I have no idea, and that's why I'm asking. Some 3/4 ply doesn't have that many plys, and they are thick. If you don't have the 3/4" for the stringers yet, order 3/8"...

Re: 16' Mitchell Deck and Stringer Replacement
I just did my stringers one at a time like you are talking about doing because I was concerned about deformation like you. I left it on its 2 bunk trailer and had no problems. There are some downsides to replacing one at a time: 1. If you remove them all at once, there is only one cleanup. You will ...
