Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
Your work is looking good, nice progress! A question- it looks like the plywood only has epoxy on where the tape is, and the rest is unsealed. I would think that washing with soap and water would get the plywood wet, which would interfere with laying the glass. You aren't going to glass over wet pl...

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
The seams are done, the hull is sanded, the entire thing has been washed with soap and water. I will wash again and make sure there are not any rough spots then the cloth lay begins.

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
Be sure to you sand the edges round enough because biax doesn't like sharp edges. If you can fill holes with putty just before laying your tape you'll ensure a perfect bonding. I hit it with a sanding block to control the sanding and rounded the edges. I’ve got one bubble I can not get to lay down....

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
I don't get it, but the pictures could be misleading : it looks like the biax tape is sanded out on the edges, which is where you would need it most ? I agree. It looks like it needs another layer of tape to cover the edge. Also agree with fuzz. I remember reading on here about acetone being proble...

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
I don’t feel too bad about this. Sanded the whole boat from the seam taping and only have a few spots to address before putting to cloth on. What a freakin itchy mess to sand though. That powder gets between your fingers and is just brutal. Shooting for this weekend to cloth. When I do anymore sandi...

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
Two questions before I start laying cloth: 1. Fairing applied before or after laying fiberglass cloth (or both)? 2. Fiberglass cloth laying method. a. Layup dry on boat and wet from top keeping touching up dry areas b. pre-wet hull and then lay cloth over and wet out. Just wondering because it seem...

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
Fairing comes after laying the glass. What glass are you using? Either way you do not want a dry joint and bare wood can suck the resin away. I like to lay the glass out and them roll it up half way. You can wet out the wood and let it soak up if it is going to and then wet it again and roll the gl...

Re: GV15 Birch Bay Washington
Finished the outer seams tonight. When I did the transom, I didn’t really feel good about the strength of the back corners at the bottom of the boat. When I was finished, I cut 6” squares of the 12oz biaxial tape and put one on each corner. Just to add a bit mor strength. (I hope)
