Re: 1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14
My boat has been gutted and I've ground down the old stringer tabbing. I'm concerned though, about the fiberglass thickness of the hull. It appears to be only about 1/16" - 1/8" thick, how thick should it be? :? If I add a layer of 1708, should it be on the inside or on the outside? Also, ...

Re: Buying EMC Paints - Great Discount for forum member
My boat is small and I was leaning toward using white, so a quart of base and a quart of activator. Do I need a brushing reducer, and if I do, is it available in quart size? What paint should I use below the water line? Unless I'm missing something, which is not beyond the realm of possibility, all ...

Re: Buying EMC Paints - Great Discount for forum member
This is probably a dumb question, but since I don't know, I'll ask anyway.
How do I determine the amount I need? Is there a rule of thumb, as to how many square feet each gallon should cover? I don't want to purchase more than I need, but I do want to have enough to finish the job. Thanks

Re: 1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14
shine, Since it has an 8 oz backing, only one layer of the 1708 right? The original transom was about 1.25" thick, but it was hard to tell because the previous owner "fixed the transom" by bolting a .25" aluminum plate on the outside to a .25" steel plate on the inside, so i...

Re: 1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14
I'd like to order epoxy, fiberglass cloth, and whatever else I'm going to need. I'm not sure exactly what I need though. Is there any other information that I need to post, to enable someone to assist me? Thanks

Re: 1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14
My boat is 14' long and will be powered by a 20hp Mercury outboard. I've also updated the pictures in my original post. Now that I've removed more of the flooring, I can see that it's probably going to be a total gut job. Here's another photo showing a crack in the bottom fiberglass of the port side...

1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14
I just bought a 1979 MFG Fishin Challenger 14 that needs a lot of work. I knew that the transom was rotten when I bought it and have realized that the floor needs work too. I was thinking of using Marine Epoxy and biaxial fiberglass, but I don't know what weight cloth I should I use or if it should ...
