It doesn't look that bad, it is mostly cosmetic. I can't see how deep it goes in the glass but I wonder if it is necessary to use any glass. If you do, use the lightest you have left from your previous project, grind to a taper all around and finish with QuickFair. From memory, the glass is ground ...

Update from the weekend.
