Re: Upcoming HC14 - Plan questions

I just wanted to add some encouragement. I built an HC14 for my first canoe, and I love it. She handles like a dream. I learned a lot in building it, so when I build another S&G boat, I will do a much better job. My biggest recommendations are these: Get the fiberglass roller! I had way too many...

Re: CH-14 Sept 2016 Dan C.

This is not that tippy, She likes to be upright. I have not had a second person in the boat yet. I had fun with it this weekend, and had the seat in the middle. Still more tippy than I would like, but I did not get water in it getting in and out this time. I even turned around in it once to make sur...

Re: CH-14 Sept 2016 Dan C.

Went by a local shop that rents canoes and kayaks on a local lake during the summer. I bought one of the used kayak paddles for $20. I am going camping this weekend and will be paddling along in the 200+ acre lake at this state park. I couldn't talk anyone else into going, so I am not sure if I will...

CH-14 Sept 2016 Dan C.

Woohoo! I really like this canoe. Pro: Paddles like a dream! Every other canoe I have paddled took more effort to move. I barely had to pull on the paddle. Almost unsinkable. I made some hopefully airtight compartments under the breast hooks. (They leak a little, so I was not successful.) When I fil...

Re: Chenoa 14 1st build

AARRRGHHH!!! I finished everything on the boat, and had plans to splash it this evening at a friends pond, but as I was running some erronds today my car decided it did not want to run anymore. Three hours later, I figured out that my four year old battery did not want to work anymore. New battery i...

Re: Second build?

Okay, thanks guys. I will look at the plans, and decide which way to go. I thought it was looking like I would be limited to another canoe. After I paddle this one around this weekend, I will know more of what I like and don't like about it, and that will help me decide. I plan to splash it tomorrow...

Second build?

So I've finished a CH14. When I bought lumber, I bought extra plywood. So I am looking for ideas for a second build. I have 2 1/2 sheets of 4mm Okume. The half is ripped down the middle. Any suggestions? I would prefer not to buy more plywood. I life in East Tennessee, so I've got rivers and lakes t...

Re: Sliding canoe seat question.

Did some sanding in the track and the bolts move better now. I have them off the boat to varnish them. (Along with the removable spreader bar.) First coat of varnish on. Two more coats to go.

I plan to splash the boat this weekend. I can't wait!
