Re: HELP! SK14 bottom fairing, what to do now?

So I became aware of the section on epoxy cure times. Today. Wealth of info like, “epoxy has an almost indefinite shelf life” and here’s a good one “adding more or less hardener will only result in uncured epoxy.” :x In my haste to get the graphite on in the warm weather I am reminded of the ...

Re: HELP! SK14 bottom fairing, what to do now?

I’m listening. Hopefully learning. Good stuff. Little surprise this afternoon. Michael came roaring through central NC and we have no power. I did do some sanding by hand with “the board” and I don’t think it’s going as bad as I thought. Lots of the fairing mix cured and is nice and hard and banded ...

Re: HELP! SK14 bottom fairing, what to do now?

Thanks for all the help and sharing knowledge/experience. Capt AB great details on the recipe for the graphite coating. Anybody have any details on the fairing recipe? I’ve got all these phenolic micro balloons hate to go to waste. Of course when you factor in the cost of the wasted epoxy and the TI...

Re: HELP! SK14 bottom fairing, what to do now?

Sorry for my poor communication skills. To clarify the fiberglass was great. No problems. Wet out great cured fine. The problem is with the fairing mix of epoxy and phenolic micro balloons. What I was trying to say is that in sanding off the mess I sanded through the glass on the high spots. All the...

HELP! SK14 bottom fairing, what to do now?

first of all prayers for everyone in the path of Michael. Please be safe, you can replace everything but life. So i tried to take advantage of the warm summer weather extended into fall here in central NC and get the graphite bottom on the SK14. i posted previously and decided to fair first then coa...

Re: Sk14 final days, thinking about the FS14e

Hey rookie thanks for that info. I really need to look into that because i want the the fs14 to come in as light as possible. Part of building the sk-4 was to get experience. I need some stuff from BBC and will add the peel ply to my order. Ive read but should probably review the tutorial on using p...

Re: Sk14 final days, thinking about the FS14e

Great info Narfi and thanks. I honestly hadn’t thought about the rougher bottom catching on rocks 8O.

I think I can face up to one coat of fairing and sand the bottom with the random orbital sander.

Re: Sk14 final days, thinking about the FS14e

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement Narfi. It will be ok once I get it faired and painted (covering all the splices and mistakes   ). I will post some pics this weekend. The little cooler in the front did come out pretty good. Utility wise. My goals were to keep it light but obviou...

Sk14 final days, thinking about the FS14e

Hey all well life happens and a lot of time has passed since my last post/ report. But I’m still at it. This summer I did the foam under the sole on the SK14 and have the sole on. After purchasing an inexpensive scale and hanging it from the ceiling of my garage and seeing what it already weighed I ...

Re: FS14 with outboard jet

Found him!! Looks like he posted last in 2016 so may not be able to communicate with him if he’s not on the boards anymore but at least can go through every5hing he posted. Thanks for finding that video Capt UB, and your thoughts and comments. One thing I’ve already learned. That Tohatsu he has is a...
