Re: How much glue per sq/ft of transom?

In addition to calculating expected coverage, I aim for my first batch to be enough for half or less of the glue up. Once I run out I can see how far I actually got and figure out pretty exactly how much more I need as long as I keep applying in the same way.

Re: New boat from elsewhere

If you are going to post a build thread just specify the design, no reason to make people hunt for it. I am not aware of a topside paint that I would be comfortable using below the waterline. It sounds like you don't want an ablative bottom paint as those are the ones that wear down quickly. You cou...

Re: FS17—looking for real-world prop recommendations

I have a very heavy FS17 with a suzuki 60hp. In this post I detail the performance with an 11-1/4 x 15 cheap aluminum prop from amazon https://community.boatbuildercentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=497464#p497464 Since then I have adopted an 11-1/4 x 14 stainless prop from the powertech SRD line. I ...

Re: Polyester fabric

All epoxies are two part. I have a preference for 2:1 ratio epoxies like system 3 silvertip over 5:1 epoxies like west system. They have a number of properties that make them easier to work with but are more expensive. Either way you will end up with a great boat just depends on if time or money is ...

Re: Polyester fabric

For working with epoxy I find denatured alcohol to be cheaper, less toxic, and just as effective as acetone for almost everything. There are almost no tools I try to save, just buy disposable things from the start in bulk. You'll spend more in solvent trying to reuse something. So alcohol for everyt...

Re: Marshall's FS17

Did you all need a survey or appraisal first? I have liability coverage but to cover the boat itself my insurance company(amica) said they would but needed an appraisal first to establish the value. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re: Boat keel strip destroying rollers.

Don't know why I never thought of that. Suppose I could try that if I can get in there with a dremel. Upside down I'm not trying a router. :help: Even 60 grit on an orbital or a light touch with a flap disk with an angle grinder would probably work. Dremel would work but sounds slower than I might ...

Re: Boat keel strip destroying rollers.

The 20mm by 3mm Aluminium flat bar that I glued to the keel provides protection to the keel but also has some sharp edges that have already chewed up the old rollers that were on the keel, even though I've only been moving the boat backwards and forwards on the trailer to find its balance. Sounds l...

Re: Polyester fabric

I would like to use the polyester fabric rather than fiberglass because of the ease of application and draping capabilities of polyester. So, do I use the same resin for polyester fabric as one would use for fiberglass? I know that it drinks up a lot more resin, I am OK with that. That's it. A simp...

Re: Epoxy texture

Thank you for the answers so far. I should have mentioned this is after I sanded some with 80 grit. I think I’ll try waiting longer between coats on the backside of these panels to see if that helps. Glad I practiced on the center console! Looks pretty normal to me for sanding an epoxy coated surfa...
