Thanks for your responses. It sounds like the GV11 is stable enough for my purposes. I have a lot of experience with dinghy’s and I don’t plan on doing back flips and cartwheels on the dingy, but I have been very disappointed with the stability of other small boats. The engine weight is a consid...

GV11 Stability And Horsepower

I am considering building a GV11 to use as a dingy for my sailboat. I previously built a D5 pram but it was way to tender and did not operate well with an outboard. How stable is the GV11? Can you move about the boat comfortably and without fear of it flipping? Also, the building plans say it will p...

I'm looking for an off white/ivory or something like Interlux Hatteras White from S3 (that is if my five year old paint doesn't pan out).

What would would you recomend from S3?

Thanks for the information ks. I think Jacques is right about my can of primer. It's five years old and would be better off as an anchor. Besides, after all this work it would be rediculous to try and save a few bucks on an old can of primer.

Thanks,

Shelf Life of System Three Paint & Tinting

I have several cans of System Three two part paint and a can of S3 primer that are about five years old. They are about half used and have mostly been kept inside except for about a year and a half in the garage. Are they still good to use? Also, one of the cans of S3 paint is white and I want to ti...

Fiberglass Tape

I seem to have the same problems with laying the fiberglass tape over and over, and sometimes with the cloth. This is my second boat so I have some experience and I am much better at laying fiberglass than before. I always pre-coat and lay tape over wet putty. 1) When I wet out the tape I always see...

PK-78 Seat Locations

I just started bulding my PK-78 and already have my first question. Which dimention panel shows the location of the seats (=frames)? And, what is the beginning reference point for the locations to mark on the side and bottom panels? Thanks.

Thank you for ALL your responses. Regardless of other disagreements, the answer to my question is clear. I will build the boat from Okume. Any savings from using another type of wood are dwarfed by my time and labor input. I believe in doing it right the first time. I will order the Okume Plywood. I...

PK78 - Okume v. Marine Plywood / Fir

Ok, so Okume is the best plywood to use in the construction of my PK78! But I have found a close source for "marine plywood" / Fir. How does Fir compare to Okume? I am most interested in weight but want all the pros and cons. Thanks.
