Re: MI12 Launch, and a rowing geometry question
IMG_1792.jpg Finally got a legitimate trailer underneath the MI12. (Yes, my tow vehicle is a Prius. ) I think I've resolved my rowing geometry problems with a 2 inch wooden riser from ash to match rubrails and oarlocks with a long-shaft and half-inch spacer. Still need to do a bit of testing,...

Re: MI12 Launch, and a rowing geometry question
Jacques,
Thanks. It's a big relief to hear you say that I will likely only need to raise the oars 2 inches to get them into the comfort zone.
That should be a pretty easy fix.
I'll try new hardware first, and if that doesn't work will make some risers out of leftover ash.
Thanks!!

Re: MI12 Launch, and a rowing geometry question
Thanks, everyone.
I should add that the oars are 7.5 footers, which was suggested for the boat. I bought them from Sawyer.

MI12 Launch, and a rowing geometry question
Hi Everyone, I launched my MI12 today. It's a beautiful boat, and, thank goodness, it floated! Overall, I'm satisfied. But I felt cramped rowing. My legs were sort of getting in the way, even when I stretched them out straight, and the geometry feels off. Maybe the pic of me rowing can help you see ...

Re: MI12 (McInnis Bateau) Build Update
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm not sure what the boat weighs. It feels about as heavy as a standard aluminum canoe. It feels pretty light, but still sturdy. I think the plans said it would come in between 65 and 85 pounds. Mine is probably on the top end of that because I used ash for seats...

Re: FS14 Plywood vs Marine Plywood
I’ve used meranti and it is so easy to plane and work with. The cheap stuff, on the other hand, is a headache. It’s too hard, the voids catch on tool edges, it looks bad, doesn’t take paint as well.
Go for the good stuff.

Re: MI12 (McInnis Beateau) Build Update
Here is an update. I’m very satisfied.
So close to launching. Just needs varnish on the woodwork, hardware and a touch up where a moth landed in wet paint.

Chine version. The lines don't really show up well right now with the fiberglass and epoxy. I'm hoping they pop once I get paint on.
