Re: Bob's FS18

Wow, MANY thanks again to all for the compliments! Jeff I'll get you some photos when it warms up. To answer a couple of questions, the fish scale look is actually a routed pattern option with SeaDek. I'm pretty sure it is called large tarpon scale. I went with the same background as the photo, Blue...

Re: Bob's FS18

Many thanks to everyone for the kind words and Happy New Year! I was so excited to finish things up and get out on the water that I didn't really get to post any "finish" photos. The kit arrived in March of 2019 and I splashed the boat 2 1/2 years later on September 14, 2021. Drove straigh...

Re: Bob's FS18

The plan to move the boat from the strongback to the trailer was postponed due to a delay at the fabricator for the poling platform. The time was used to get some of the deck hardware bedded and hatches to place. Pads for the platform were replaced temporarily for fabrication. After the platform is ...

Re: Bob's FS18

Time for the last bit of painting. The decks, gunnels and hatches got the final coats of primer after tons of fairing. The over-drilled and filled holes in the console hatch lid are for screws that will secure the cushion from underneath. https://www.community.boatbuildercentral.com/forum/app.php/ga...

Re: Bob's FS18

With the decks and gunnels down, now was the time to get the fore and aft hatches built and temporarily in place before the gunnels and decks could be trimmed out on the inside of the cockpit. The plywood pieces that were previously cut out of the decks for the hatch openings were faired so that the...

Re: Bob's FS18

Not as much was left to do on the forward deck to get it ready, but positioning the hole for the fuel fill was a little tricky. From the fuel fill to the tank intake is a straight shot with a very short length of hose, so the hole would require precise placement. A piece of PVC pipe, the same diamet...

Re: Bob's FS18

Now the work began to get the fore and aft decks ready to go down. Some thought went into how the poling platform would be mounted and the fabricator actually came out to the house to help design it and position mounting pads for the best screw hole placement. The plan was to laminate aluminum backi...

Re: Bob's FS18

Tom, so sorry I missed replying to your post. I think the light wood you're talking about is what I've used for cleats, stringers, etc. and it's simply clear yellow pine. Browndog you sure are right that sanding and fairing takes a bunch of time and I was very happy to get back to construction. Befo...

Re: Bob's FS18

A quick post to start catching up again with progress. After getting all but the final coat of paint in the cockpit, it was time to finish framing for the gunnels. I cut a notch in the gunnel supports and in the fore and aft frames to accept the stringers. https://www.community.boatbuildercentral.co...

Hatches look really great Reid. Strong enough to stand on?
