Just barely got it on plane but still early in break in period. Beautiful skiff. Have not been following your build until now. How are the chines put ...

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

It was a scored bottle from West Marine made for christining! Easy to break, unlike a real bottle lol. We drank the real bottle!! I’ll bring it by the shop soon!

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

She floats!!!! I’m still in a bit of shock...even though for a year and a half I’ve researched countless hours, read book after book, scoured the internet into the wee hours for nights and nights on end, read every last post on this forum, and spent blood sweat and tears into building it....until sh...

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

Been busy but not busy keeping y’all updated. Everything is painted, and almost time to mount the motor! Quick question...is everyone using 4200 to glue motor on, or just in and around the bolt holes (which are over drilled, filled, and redrilled)? Used Alexseal paint, and Soft Sand for non skid, fi...

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

Beautiful build! On the last picture, are you going to round over that edge? Sharp edges on most things tend to ding easier. Having not finished a boat, I can only imagine it is similar. Yes! That’s actually an older photo, I’ve since routered the top and bottom of the rub rail (cypress wood...

Ordered a gallon of base and used probably half.

Re: Kids in the Shop

Priming is a good time. I just let her go out it for the first couple coats. Sanding it anyway, who cares! And as others said, mine enjoys working parallel to me on her own “projects” with scraps. I also treat her the way my dad did me, Gopher (go fer this, go get that!) and Chief Flashlight Holder....

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

Good talking to you the other day. I really like the design of your boat. I was pretty certain the tack cloth caused the fisheye problem. Nice recovery! Very nice paint job! 8) Same here! I noticed after the fact I had a waxy residue on my hands after handling it...something I didn’t notice when I ...

Re: SBW FRS-15 Build “Kestrel”

Progressions of paint! Just finished 4th coat of Alexseal. Lays down great! Battled some fish eyes on the first coat, but was able to sand them back, change a few techniques (slightly more reducer, only one fan sucking air out at a lower rate, alcohol and lint free rag instead of a tack rag for wipe...
