Re: SK14 flooding
Splashed the newly finished SK14 last week, but had a problem. When I jumped into the boat, the back 1/3 of the boat filled with half an inch of water through the rear scupper hole. I’m not THAT big of a guy (250 pounds) and have a motor on the back that’s about 100 pounds. I used meranti plywood a...

Re: SK14 build in Louisiana
Would y’all recommend to fiberglass the deck? If so, do I fiberglass both sides? Or just the top side? Thanks!

Re: SK14 build in Louisiana
Update: Got sick with COVID with very mild symptoms, so I had some extra time to put in to the boat. Got the panels and stringers all spliced together and did the transom. Zip-tied everything together and spot welded with the epoxy putty. Had to adjust a few minor things, but overall I’m happy with ...

Re: SK14 build in Louisiana
I liked the short deck option as well and the SK14 from Skiff Life, that I believe is the one pictured, was one of the reasons why. My set of plans included the short foredeck optional drawing. The rear of the foredeck lands on frame A. I can take a photo of the plan if you don't have the drawing, ...

Re: SK14 build in Louisiana
It really does seem kinda hard to put a saw to it.
Then I think about the final product and that all melts away.

SK14 build in Louisiana
Hope everyone is well. Just picked up some beautiful meranti down in New Orleans after Jacques gave the green light to use meranti for the SK14. I feel a little more comfortable with meranti given it is more rot-resistant than Okoume since I’ll be in the Louisiana marshes where there’s plenty of und...

Re: Buying Okoume locally
Thanks for all the help guys. Since Jacques gave the green light on the meranti, I found a local source in New Orleans that everyone I have called has recommended for marine plywood. It’s BS1088 and I’m going to visually inspect it today. But i’ll definitely be buying a lot of the other products thr...
