Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

Plan on keeping in the pole barn over the winter, was in a mad dash to get transom done before "winter". I have it on trailer and corner jacked n keel supported . My thought process was to pull it out of barn and cut, remove, and grind the the stringers(to keep dust to a minimum in my shop...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

Got transom glasses in. Ended up doing 4 inner layers, and followed the recommended largest overlap to smallest. Learned real quick that 1708 soaks up some damn resin, ended up throwing down a clean sheet of plastic and prewetted the other 3 layers. Made It go alot smoother. I had resin slingin ever...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

Cool, that's where I stopped got the threads knocked off and lightly scuffed up the rest, yes I laid mat side first. Will be laying the transom skin this weekend, decided on 4 layers of 1708 to get me back close to what I removed. I have all four cut and ready to go in. Layer 1 is transom only, then...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

I hit it w the grinder , but stopped , worried I was getting to aggressive w it, the sides are good, but where I got worried, was the bottom on hull side where the old stringer channels are. Apparently I got a lil heavy on the epoxy in some areas , and once I rolled it out , it's a lil uneven. I get...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

While I'm slacking on the pics, I've been cracking along. I have the transom ply set. Used the double 2 x 4 ,thru bolt and shims w clamps along the edges. And it turned out great imo. I also put the epoxy n hardener in the fridge to give me alil more time, since this is my first go at it,(not sure i...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

Spent 8 hrs grinding today, might end up buying a 7 inch to speed things up. That whooped my tail today. Have outer core and 15 " up the sides and around the keel clean and solid glass. Decided to remove an old thru keel transducer(2 inch hole) , so I could get a cleaner glass layout on the cen...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

I like the idea of that foam, the 2 inner stringer are 1.5 thick(double 3/4" ply ) the two outers are single 3/4, to this point I've only removed the floor over the tank and about 4 ft forward of stern. I wanted to try to keep as much structure in place since this is gonna be a very slow projec...

Re: 91 chawk 222 rebuild

at least i have a couple pics up, my original plan was to replace any material that is removed w coosa and was impressed from what ive read up on it, but i really cant see spending $380 a sheet at a min of 8 sheets total for a commercial grade hull for the chesapeake. my local lumber yard has 3/4 in...
