Is your answer below you? Spacing that supports your deck?
Also, covering your beams in FG may stiffen them up a bit. What about FG's cousin Carbon Fiber tape?

Re: Box top
Tom, the pontoon has long attracted me. Seems larger build and I think it raises the center of gravity. Would also be great air draft for towing. Rick, same for Saylon. The "pop bottom" is neat though. BB - that GF18 is interesting. Simple enough build. Low profile and low weight. Still ab...

Re: Box top
The helm must be forward in a shanty boat. Ok, that has not been my experience. Out of respect for JM I am not mentioning other designs by name but there are several where the vessel is tiller steered looking over the shanty. The one I am looking at does have a weird wheel set up. At front of box o...

Thank you, this thread was helpful:

Looks like I would lose some stability - which is what several have mentioned.

Re: Box top
JS what are your uses for the boat going to be. In summary: Inland waterways, fair-weather use, overnight accommodations on water or trailer. 10hp high thrust, speeds less than 7mph. Entertain 6, feed 4, sleep 2. Towed by minivan rated for 3500lb (but I wish to stay way under). The GT23 is great, b...

Re: Box top
Hey, your bedside manner is fine. I am confused and appreciate the clarification. If I could follow up, I would not think of running such a profile at planing speed. I see a barge with a 10HP on it so thought I could put a small motor on a "better" hull. But I see what you are saying. This...

Still chasing ideas... Still thinking Shanty boat. Impressed there are a few houseboat designs here less than 20' but they do not fit my needs. I did bump into a design elsewhere for a small houseboat, 16', that is essentially a box on a barge. The design is still being sold but the designer is no l...

Re: OB18 family fun boat
"I would have built one of the Pangas or the FS17 or 19" The FS17 is really checking off a lot of boxes. Low suggested HP. Shear options. Nice ride. One gentleman took it Connecticut to Montauk. Easier build (or less sheets of ply) than some other options. Nice tow eight (as designed). Thi...

Re: OB18 family fun boat
Jeff,
So are you still on Lake Ontario with your C&C? With Location=Vermont I suspect Lake Champlain. Had the Precision on that and it was beautiful.

Re: OB18 family fun boat
"If you're going to focus on comfort then go V. If you want to have fun then go flat bottom." Comfort and fun. So is comfort a smoother ride and fun a faster ride? My 15' Bowrider I'd bring down off plane when chop got messy and we'd poke along. Fine with that. It sounds like the OD's add...
