Re: Build Thread Allowed?
From my build, I figure that going from one color to two multiplied my paint time by 2.5x to 3x. The time it took to mask, and then remove the masking (including the masking tape tearing countless times) counts for the extra .5. Even though the trim did not cover as much area, the red needed 6-7 coa...

Re: Build Thread Allowed?
I agree with Cracker, making the boat look nice will easily double your build time; and I only built a 14' canoe! I had a solid hull looong before I had a nice looking canoe that I thought was worthy of splashing. http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/18816/normal_DSC_8634A.jpg http://gallery.b...

Re: HC14 hull damage
What I decided to do is sand all the paint and faring material off of the damaged areas and survey what kind of damage was actually done to the wood. At the very least what I will do is patch the inside where the large one crack in the paint is with a single layer of 6 ounce cloth. If the fiberglass...

Re: HC14 hull damage
Terrulian, May I assume that one word would sum up what you would do id she doesn't leak..."nothing"? If not, I sure am tempted to do that. If so, I don't blame you. I will probably take her out a couple more times before I get around to patching it since the outside does not look compromi...

Also, FWIW, I built her with BS1088 Okoume and she weighed in between 100 and 110 pounds.

Re: HC14 hull damage
Would biax tape or 6oz cloth be better? I have some of each left over.

Re: HC14 hull damage
Do you mean a fiberglass patch? Sand down and epoxy down a rectangle of biax tape over the affected area?

Re: HC14 Launched, October 2014
Here are some more pretty pictures. This was on the Yaquina River in Oregon between Newport and Toledo. My dad did the photography. The fog had just burnt off and some showers were headed in. We caught the perfect time window. If you want closeups, these are all in my gallery. http://gallery.bateau2...

HC14 hull damage
So my canoe dropped onto a bolt head on the dock. I was stupid and had it resting on its side, it seemed balanced and I stepped away for a second. It flopped onto a cleat and its bolt head that was sticking out above it. :x I saw a crack in the paint, but put her in anyways. No water leaked through....

Jacques and Shine,
I noticed that the HC14 plans page does not have any pictures of it posted. Feel free to use anything in my gallery for pictures of the HC14 on bateau.com
