Marin Epoxy over paint?

Hey guys, So I have used laminate paper before for printing an image and then laminating it onto a surface. The area not printed goes completely clear. I think it is mainly used on surfboards, but I learned about it on the forums here. So one of the things I had discovered about it is that the backg...

Re: Carolina Skiff CJ17 - redo floor or patch it?

Hey guys, No picture updates at the moment, but I have (I'm almost positive) gotten all the water out of the hull. The entire floor has been sanded to remove the gelcoat, and any holes or cracks have been filled with thickened epoxy. I was planning on putting down a layer of glass so I am looking fo...

Re: Carolina Skiff CJ17 - redo floor or patch it?

Thanks for the responses guys. As an updated I did drill a hole through the transom to see if any water would drain, which none did. But after obtaining a longer bit from a friend, about a foot and half long, I was able to get through some of the fiberglass ribs and then water did come out. Maybe a ...

Carolina Skiff CJ17 - redo floor or patch it?

Hey guys, Got this boat for a pretty good price cuz the motor had water in the foot, which I was able to repair. Trying to make it look nice now. The floor has a lot of cracks in the gel coat and and the area where a cooler/leaning bar set up was mounted was looking very poorly done. Looked like som...

Re: Sole surface resurfacing

Thanks CL. My brother wants to go ahead and wait for the colder months to do this job now and just fish out the boat til then. So here is what I am thinking. 1. Remove center console and channel that covers the cables. Basically have an all open floor all the way to the back. Sound down floor good. ...

Re: Sole surface resurfacing

Ok, so it would not be good to lay down epoxy, and then coat with a polyester based gel coat? Just based on the price and the catalyst being in drops instead of the epoxy ratios I am used to, that is what I am pretty sure he bought. The can doesnt say what it is made of other than that it is gel coa...

Re: Sole surface resurfacing

I have Marinepoxy and some biaxial fabric left from my build. Would you recommend sanding everything and putting a layer of that down, then fairing (I have the purplish fairing powder from you guys). I also have System3 Yacht Primer and paint. My brother is the one thinking Gelcoat on inside because...

Sole surface resurfacing

It's been awhile, but I am back. My brother has purchased a 17 foot flat bottom Carolina Skiff, center console. The sole has cracks all over it and some wacky patch job appears to have been done behind the console where a leaning post was attached to the floor. Maybe leaning post is not what it is c...

Re: Outboard troubleshooting

Haven't made any progress on this motor. My friend who owns it knows a guy is supposedly good with carburetors in general but hasn't had a chance to talk to him about it or decide if he wants to just by the card repair kit that is about $32. In the meantime, my brother just bought a 17' Carolina Ski...
