I too have a 30# electric motor. I have been in a pretty good head wind and it holds it's own. It's not fast but it gets me where I want to go. I also cut my transom down just a bit for the motor. You won't regret your boatbuilding experience. I love my FL14 but have to admit, looking back, I would build the new FS14 also. You will totally enjoy either one.

The outside of the hull is covered with 6oz. I embedded silica sand in the paint that is on the floor. It made an excellent non-slip floor but I'm not looking forward to sanding it off.
